The Search to Belong--Two

Jon belonged to Joe; not because Joe said it was ok, but because Jon felt he did. What a crazy idea, in fact it can't be explained. Many people have come up with formulas and strategies that will guarantee community and belonging, and yet this story can't be explained. This goes to show belonging can't be fixed with a simple solution or method. Belonging is organic, ackward and rarely makes sense. Joe said, "Who," not "What," is the essence of "love thy neighbor." Belonging is about people not about programs or methods.

Why do people belong sometimes and not other times?
In what ways have we helped people to belong recently and in what ways have we hurt people from belonging?

Does everyone there know you belong?
Reading this chapter, how does this change your ideas on people belonging to your group?
